Medulin
At the Cemetery site in the village of Vrpolje, in the area of Ljubomir, near Trebinje, there is a necropolis with eighteen stećci (four slabs, thirteen chest tombs, and one cross-shaped tombstone) among which six examples feature relief decorations and two bear Cyrillic inscriptions. One of these inscriptions is carved into five rows (with only two letters in the fifth row) on the front face of a tall chest tomb. It states that HERE LIES ŽUPAN MEDULIN. Further in the text, in the first person, it is said:
NIKADA MNOGO NE IMAH
A NIKADA NIŠTA NESTA
A DIJELIH
I never had much
Nor lacked anything
But shared
It is not known who the buried individual was. There is an opinion that Medulin was not a Vlach, because he bears the title of Župan, and not that of a katunar or vojvoda, as is typical for representatives of the Vlachs.
This inscription likely dates from the second half of the 14th century.
